As a member of the International J/24 Class Association, you will join over 3600 other members who have discovered the exhilarating rewards of J/24 sailing. Our sheer numbers alone make any J/24 event a good time, but throw in some of the hottest competition in the world, and you’ve got World-Class Fun!
Why is the International J/24 Class so successful? With over 50,000 people sailing J/24′s in over 105 active fleets in 30 nations, you won’t have to go far to find a home fleet. But why has the boat been such a success? Apart from being a real joy to sail, it is the diligent establishment of one-design rules and strict international control which provide some of the closest racing found in any class. Rules limit sails to main, genoa, jib, and spinnaker; limit crew weight; and all-up sailing weight. Class measurers are thoroughly trained and ready to help with measurement sessions anywhere in the country. And any J/24, regardless of age, can be made competitive–ensuring strong resale value.
The J/24 class attracts some of the most talented sailors in the world. J/24 sailors often dominate Grand Prix events, the America’s Cup, and the Olympics. Because of this concentration of talent, you get the chance to sail with and learn from the best. The J/24 also attracts the weekend club sailor because the boat is fun and responsive in any condition, and can be easily handled by one or two people. Rugged construction, 4-berth interior, outboard power, and easy trailerability provide the confidence and comfort to stretch your sailing horizons where no other small boat can go.
“Over 5100 J/24s have been built around the world. It is probably the most successful small one-design keelboat class in the history of sailing. It was the right boat at the right time, because it allowed sailors to own a boat that transcended all the image limits normally imposed by a class. If you sail a J/24, you could be an ocean racer, and international rock star, a club racer, or a daysailor. What mattered most was that you had become part of a big family of sailors, and that was fun.” – Sail magazine, January 1995, “Five Boats That Made a Difference” (Used with permission of Sail magazine, 1995)
The International J/24 Class Association is second to none… At one time, the J/24 was the only offshore one design boat approved by the ISAF. Racing has never been as close or more fun–witness the continuously large turnouts at virtually any J/24 regatta. Continental Championships often average between 50 and 100 boats. And it’s not just the big ones that get this turnout; district and local events get impressive turnouts, too.
Go ahead, give us a call! If you’re ready to make a real progress as a sailor and have fun, get into the class that will teach you more about racing faster and smarter than any other small keelboat in the world. Contact the U.S. J/24 Class Association Office at:
