Thanks to Finn Hadlock for this report: Fleet 43, Portland Yacht Club and SailMaine hosted the Downeast Regatta, which included the State of Maine & J/24 District 1 Championship in early September.

The first day of racing had three races with the breeze gradually building throughout the day. Every race had a different winner with Jasmine, Mr. Hankey and Boreas each taking a race. Saturday night, the lobster bake was just what the fleet needed after a wild and wet sail in from Casco Bay. Sunday was projected to be light, but PRO Myles Everett found the only good breeze in the bay just off the Portland waterfront and was able to get in a race. Caramella was able to take the last race, but it would be Andrew Carey and the Mr. Hankey team who would take the 2025 Downeast Regatta win! Mr. Hankey finished with a total of 15 points, and the team included Stephanie Helms, Austin Zauner, Jimmy Barnash and Nathan Selian. They are also the 2025 District 1 and Maine State Champions!

In second place, Patrick Cobb and Palomino finished with 18 points, and in third place, Regatta Chair Finn Hadlock and Boreas finished with 25 points.

Thank you to all the teams from Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Rhode Island and Florida who came to Maine for some great racing and thank you to all of our local volunteers who ran a great regatta.
