Paul Foerster’s Grand Slam 2, with crew Mike Brown, Rob Johnston, Ryan Minth and John Skiles, are the 2022 J/24 Midwinter Champions. No racing took place Sunday for the 32 boats at Davis Island Yacht Club in Tampa, FL due to lack of breeze, so the scores through four races became final. Foerster came from Rush Creek Yacht Club in Texas, and nailed scores only in the top two for 7 points. The team will compete in this summer’s J/24 World Championship in Corpus Christi, TX. Tony Parker’s Bangor Packet started out hot on Friday, but a 10 in the fourth race pushed him to second place with 15 points. Losing the tiebreaker for third place is Mike Marshall’s American Garage. James Freedman’s LOL prevailed among the impressive 17-boat Corinthian division, and they also placed fourth overall. Following Freedman amongst the amateur teams were Al Constants’ Blitz and Steve Callison’s Whiskey River.
