Thank you to Marcus Rogers for this report: District 12 had a good weekend of sailing at the Indianapolis Sailing Club in Fishers, IN. There were five boats competing for the Championship. We were excited to get three boats from Eagle Creek (Fleet #131) that traveled to join the festivities. On Saturday, we were able to get in four races with winds starting out light and building up to 12 mph with gusts of over 19. Rick Graef on Don’t Panic dominated by winning three of those races, and Bob Hickok on Spontaneous Combustion winning one. Todd Bracken on Undaunted was third in every race, Jack Charleston on Wind Swept was repeatedly fourth, and David Sterling on Viking Bride was consistent at fifth. On Sunday, we were able to get in two races with the first one in very light wind and the second race was a steady breeze of 8-12 mph. Rick Graef won both races, but Bob Hickok was close to winning both races. Todd Bracken continued to get third, and David Sterling was able to beat Jack Charleston in both races. A big shout out to Todd Bracken who bought his boat last year and has been a consistent force every Wednesday. He has grown the Fleet at Eagle Creek by four boats in the last year and has had a fast learning curve. We love seeing Todd improve and hope to see him at the top of the podium in the very near future. Jack Charleston, who owns a J/24 and is 19 years old, has been sailing his boat for over two years. He transferred over from his Thistle a few years ago. This is his first real regatta on his J/24. He is looking forward to his next event! Please note that Rick Graef won this event with three ladies on board. This is the first time the District Championship has been won with three women on board. We are excited to see ladies so well-represented on the winners podium.
