Thanks to Travis Odenbach for this report: Oneida Lake Sailing Club held the second event of the District 7 J/24 Pennant Series on Oneida Lake during the first weekend of June. 14 boats showed up for two days of racing and amazing hospitality at Callahan’s Marina. After what has been a sticky hot May, the weather cooled down and Mother Nature provided some great breeze on both days. Saturday, the breeze was out of the WNW at 10 to 15 knots with some small chop. If you haven’t been to Oneida Lake, this lake runs west to east, and when the prevailing winds are out of the west, it makes for an amazing sailing venue. This fleet has never been disappointed on this lake. On Sunday, the breeze shifted and came out of the ESE, and was a bit shiftier with the velocity at about 8 to 12 knots. This made it a challenge for everyone to stay in the pressure, but also was nice to see some different conditions from the day before. Oneida Lake Sailing Club and the volunteers were amazing, and the races were perfect. Thank you so much and hope to see more people there next year.
