Thanks to Marcus Rogers for this report: Every year, Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland, OH does an excellent job running their races and entertaining its guests. This year was even better because Mother Nature helped by providing lots of wind for both days (June 17-18). The J/24s had nine boats competing with one of those boats being skippered by our own IJCA Chair, Nancy Zangerle. We also had a boat with three generations aboard sailing, and it was skippered by Cathleen Graf who has owned and skippered her boat for 36 years. The first day was shifty and very puffy, but they were able to get four races in. The winner for the day was Park McRitchie who had a score of 8 for the day (1,3,1,3). In second was John O’Brien with 10 (2,5,2,1), and in third was Ryan Lashaway with 12 (6,1,3,2). Day two was a very challenging day because of the puffs blowing up to 20 and once again, it was very shifty day. Due to the great race management, they were able to get in two races before the storm hit sending everyone back to the harbor. Ryan Lashaway was able to take the overall lead by getting two bullets. Taking second place overall was John O’Brien who had two second place finishes for the day. In third place overall was Park McRitchie who finished with a 6 and a 4 for the day. Ryan Lashaway had a very young crew, but they are no strangers to sailing. Ryan grew up racing ice boats and sailing his Thistle. He traded in his Thistle six weeks ago to get his J/24 hull #1373. Not bad for his first race weekend! All arrows are pointing up for Ryan, and we look forward to seeing more of him soon.
