The International J/24 Class Association (IJCA) and the Parkstone Yacht Club in Poole United Kingdom today announced that the 2021 J/24 World Championship scheduled for September 26-October 1, 2021 has been cancelled. The Organizing Committee (OC) had hoped that it would be possible to hold the much-anticipated regatta this autumn. However, despite the encouraging progress that is being made toward the UK’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear that even if the UK lockdown continues in line with the UK Government’s current timetable, there will continue to be uncertainty regarding International travel for some time. Regatta Chairman Bryan Drake commented, “We know that this will cause a great deal of disappointment, not only to the OC who have worked hard for over four years to deliver a superb event but also to the J/24 community across the world. Both the OC and the J/24 crews were hoping that the pandemic would be behind us all by now so that we could have looked forward to a fabulous fortnight later this year, but there is too much uncertainty to make this viable.” The IJCA and its members worldwide look forward to resuming World Championship sailing in 2022.
