Thanks to Marcus Rogers for this report: The 2018 J/24 District 12 Championship was held at Port Clinton Yacht Club. Thank you to PCYC for hosting and Doug Blackburn for organizing such a great event. We were also lucky to have the services of our PRO Jay Austin. This was a very fun weekend for all with 11 boats signed up. The first day of racing started out slow with an hour-long delay until the wind came up. Once it did, it was blowing about 5-6 knots with the typical shifty winds. Jay was able to get in two races for the day until the wind died down again. Ryan Lashaway on Escape Plan finished the day with two bullets. Day two was very uneventful because the god of winds was laughing at us. The boats left the harbor with a slight wind. Once they got out to the RC boat, the wind died. The boats floated around for two hours before the races were cancelled for the day. The weekend produced only two races, and the overall winner was Ryan Lashaway with crew Jim Herold (trimmer), Beth Schnipke(mast), Olivia Lashaway (tactician) and Petro Danylewycz (bow). Second place went to Kevin O’Brien of Fugue State, with third going to Dean Riedy of Hallpass. For the complete race results, go to: https://yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=4711. This event was also the first for our new District 12 Governor, Ryan Lashaway. Ryan is no stranger to sailing and has been doing it his whole life. This is only his second year in the J/24, and his future has all the arrows pointing up. We look forward to seeing Ryan doing the circuit next year and ending at the Worlds in Miami.
