Twenty eight J/24s came out to race the 31st JDaze Regatta in Canandaigua, NY. Quantum Sails ran several practice starts in 8-10 knots of breeze followed by a debrief on the club porch. A chilly and lengthy Saturday morning postponement on shore ended just before 1:00pm, and the racers headed out for three races in a light breeze of 3-8. The first race was won by Quantum Sail’s Carter White sailing Honeybadger. Lake George’s Alfie Merchant on Witch Way finished second, with Jack DePeters on Jack Be Nimble in third. A boat-end favor led to a congested start to race 2, won by the Constants boys on Blitz, followed by Andrew Carey’s Mr. Hankey and Aidan Glackin’s Mental Floss. The third and final race of the day saw much lighter breeze, and boats worked hard to finish before the time limit expired. Aidan Glackin crossed the finish line in first, followed by Carter White in second and then George Braddon on Bogus. Regatta Chair Mike Stasko and the Canandaigua Yacht Club put on an amazing dinner with Kentucky Derby festivities Saturday night. Unfortunately the breeze was absent on Sunday, and Race Committee canceled racing after a two-hour AP on shore. The Lambert Lai Trophy was presented to Dave Stoller. Travis Odenbach took home the Pennant Series Trophy, with Tom Doran finishing second in the District Series and Regatta Chair Mike Stasko in third. Congratulations to Mr. Hankey from Portland Yacht Club finishing third overall, Alfie Merchant on Witch Way in second and Carter White also from Portland Yacht Club in first.
