1. Minimum age to apply: 21 years.
  2. You must complete the online grant application form by clicking here and submit all portions to the J/24 Class office by midnight (EST) February 1st of the application year. To submit the application:

    2. You may submit your cover letter, resume, team description, and proposed regatta schedule, and three (3) reference letters via email to:

      The postmark is not controlling; the application must be in the Office before April 1st of the application year.
      Late applications will not be considered.
  3. Application Checklist:
    1. 30 points:  The personal cover letter should include the plan for use of the boat, including a narrative describing who, what, where, when, and how.  Should describe your transportation resources (boat and trailer can be up to 5000lbs), options or needs, etc.
    2. 5 Points: Proximity to an existing J/24 Fleet.
    3. 25 points: Strength of resume for applicant and projected teammates.
    4. 25 points: Three (3) recommendations from sailors, coaches, or other pertinent people knowledgeable of applicant and team.  No recommendations from relatives will be considered.
    5. 15 points: Respect for Boat and Equipment. Describe experience with boat maintenance, how boat will be taken care of and stored.
    1. A personal letter outlining what the grant would mean to you and why you are the best candidate for a grant (see details below).
    2. Your sailing resume (including finishes & fleet sizes).
    3. Information about your teammates and their sailing resumes.
    4. Projected Regatta Schedule.
    5. Letters of recommendation and contact information from three (3) sailing references. They can be a current or former coach, a competitor, a member of your yacht club, or any other sailing reference who knows you well. No recommendations from relatives, please.
    6. Be sure to address all of the selection criteria.

4. Once the proposals have been graded, the top applicants will be interviewed. The interview will be scored (30 pts.) and added to the above points to determine the total.  

5. The Grantee will be notified by or before April 1 of the application year. The Boat Grant Program year will begin on or before May 1 of the application year.
